Early on, the only really effective counter for a sniper is another sniper. It can make short work of any Engineers/Pioneers that get in its path, and it can easily take out an entire Riflemen or Volksgrenadier squad by garrisoning it in a building along with some other units take some of the heat off it. The sniper is most powerful early game, before effective countermeasures can be brought into play. The sniper also makes an effective, invisible scout for calling down artillery or locating enemy forces. The sniper is incapable of damaging heavy armor, but does small damage to bikes and jeeps with every shot. Against heavy weapon teams like AT guns and Mortars, killing two of the crew will automatically kill the 3rd member. It can quickly pick off the members of a weapons team, such as a Heavy Machine Gun Team or AT gun. The sniper is very effective at clearing buildings without getting in range of the units inside.
